Cloisonné (from French cloison, “partition”) is made by soldering thin wire shapes onto a metal body, then filling the compartments with enamel and firing/polishing. In China, the technique was adopted centuries ago and became especially associated with the Ming period; it’s often nicknamed “Jingtai blue” (景泰蓝), although many later pieces are not strictly Jingtai-period.
